Tyson Dahlem Criminal Defence

I am a lawyer with Dunn & Associates. I have practiced extensively in criminal law for the past nine years.  I have a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours from the University of Ottawa, and received my law degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  While in Ottawa, I worked for two years as a Page in the Senate of Canada.  I was was heavily involved with intercollegiate debate, serving in various executive positions with the English Debating Society at the University of Ottawa, as well as serving as the chairman of organizing committee of the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate National Championships in 1996.  I  also worked for the United Nations Association on the 50th anniversary celebrations of the United Nations.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, I returned to Saskatoon to attend law school.  I was a member of the College of Law team from the University of Saskatchewan that won the Western Canada Trial Moot Competition in 1999, and competed at the national Sopinka Moot Competition that same year. In 2000, I competed in the Laskin Moot, where my team mate and myself were undefeated in our competition rounds. The Laskin Moot is an appellate moot on an issue of administrative and regulatory law. It is a bilingual competition and I competed in French.

In 2000 I also received a scholarship from the Center for Studies in Agriculture, Law and Economics from the University of Saskatchewan and studied at the Internationella Handelshögskolan in Jönköping , Sweden (Jönköping International Business School),  where I studied law and economics.

I articled with a large commercial and corporate firm in Saskatoon in 2001 and also worked there as an associate, practicing mainly in the area of civil litigation.  I then joined a small firm in Canmore, Alberta, in 2003, where I did criminal, civil, and family law.  I started my own firm in 2006, and have been practicing almost exclusively criminal defence since that time.

I am a  fluent French speaker, and am one of the select few lawyers in Alberta who has conducted a lengthy trial in French. I have defended clients charged with all types of offenses; from mischief, simple thefts and assaults, to impaired driving, impaired driving causing bodily harm and arson, trafficking and murder. I have defended clients charged with sexual assault, break and enter, and many other serious charges.  As a result of practicing in Banff and Canmore for 12 years, I have extensive experience of defending trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and proceeds of crime charges, along with the related search and seizure issues.

A long time resident of Canmore, I have moved my main office to Calgary to better serve my clients outside of the Bow Valley. I remain a Canmore resident, and am happy to meet with with clients in Banff and Canmore.
